The recent record cold weather in a large part of the country should be a wake-up call to motorists who have not yet winterized their vehicles, warns the Car Care Council. “Freezing cold temperatures can stress out a vehicle, as well as its driver,” said Rich White, executive director, Car Care Council. “The recent record low temperatures are a harsh reminder to be car care aware. Ghosts and goblins howling on Halloween are about par for the course, but when your car stops purring and starts making scary sounds, it's time to head straight for the repair shop and have it checked out by a technician. Severe weather, unprecedented rainfall and flooding have taken their toll on car owners. Many in the affected areas have driven through high water that may have damaged their vehicles. Even if your vehicle was not flooded or completely covered in water, the non-profit Car Care Council recommends that you follow these guidelines to check for damage due to water intrusion or contamination: Check interior carpets, upholstery and door and trim panels for dampness. Are you a severe driver? Normal driving is defined as steady driving in non-extreme weather or environments, so for most motorists today, being a severe driver is more the rule than the exception. The average age of vehicles on the road is rising, and as cars get older, they need more service and repair.
