Many businesses in our city are presently closed due to the mandatory shelter in place ordinance and it has recently been extended. Auto repair services like Thom's are classified as an Essential Business thus allowing us to to be open and available to perform the needed services on our clients vehicles . We are taking the necessary precautions to ensure proper sanitation practices in our work area and the office, as well as disinfecting the interior of your vehicles upon arrival and completion of work. We have created a No Contact drop area outside of the waiting room; payment can be accomplished via credit card over the phone. We understand that finances are being stretched at this time, but reliable vehicles are a necessity, if funding is an issue we have various option available upon request.For those sheltering in place and would prefer vehicle pick up and delivery, we are able to accommodate you within a five mile range of the shop. These are trying and uncertain times for everyone and we want all of our clients to remain healthy and safe and know you can call on us for support during you times of need.

Online Resource for New Drivers

Most young people look forward to the day they get their driver’s license, but with the new found freedom also comes the responsibility of caring for their car. To help new drivers understand the importance of auto care, the non-profit Car Care Council offers a variety of online resources for new drivers on its website, www.carcare.org.

“Before handing over the keys to a new driver, it’s a good idea to take some time to educate them on the importance of preventative maintenance and how proper vehicle care relates to the reliability and safety of their car,” said Rich White, executive director of the Car Care Council. “The Car Care Council’s website is a valuable resource for timely and relevant information to help new drivers drive smart, save money and make informed decisions.”

To help new drivers become more comfortable with the auto service and repair process, the Car Care Council’s video entitled “Auto Service and Repair: What to Expect” provides valuable information on such topics as finding the right auto repair facility, what to expect at the shop and what questions to ask. The video also covers the real truth about consumer rights and the manufacturer’s warranty.

Every new motorist should have a copy of the council’s Car Care Guide in the glove box. Available free of charge at www.carcare.org/car-care-guide, this 60-page booklet is available in both English and Spanish. The popular guide uses easy-to-understand language and includes descriptions of major vehicle systems, questions to ask a professional technician, and a checklist to remind drivers what vehicle systems need to be maintained and when service or repair should be performed. Special sections on fuel economy and environmental awareness show new drivers how to get better gas mileage and make their vehicle more environmentally friendly.

The Car Care Council’s online custom service schedule and e-mail reminder service can help young people be more responsible and remember to include car care in their busy schedules. This easy-to-use resource is free of charge and can be personalized to help make auto care more convenient and economical. The council also has a general service schedule that can be printed and followed. New drivers should be sure to consult their vehicle owner’s manual for specific recommendations by the carmaker.
